A card game to give students an understanding of major events during the 1800s that relate to industrialization and immigration.
This game was developed to be used alongside the Bill of Rights Institute's BRI Jr. Resources.
Game Set-Up
Distribute all cards evenly to the group. There should be no cards remaining. All cards are needed to play the game. Players may not have the same number of cards, this is expected.
Game Play
To begin the game, stand players in a circle. One player will have the “I have START, Who has____?” card. The student reads their card to the group. The player whose card contains the answer to that card goes next. They read their card aloud, and the game continues in this way across the circle. The game ends when a student reads the card that says “I have ____ and I have THE END.”
There should not be any unread cards at the end of the game
Teacher Note: This game is self-correcting, so once students understand the game mechanic, they can play independently. The cards of the game will always go in the same order. If there are any cards left over at the end of the game, this signifies that there was an incorrect answer at some point during the game.
